Many of us believe that we should not care about what's going on beyond our borders and in other regions because it doesn't affect us. What goes on in the world does affect us. Whether we are affected directly or indirectly, we are affected. Moreover, we are called to pray for our brothers and sisters here and abroad. We are called to pray for our nation, our leaders, and our world. We may not understand the first thing about how our leaders make the decisions they make or why things may be happening yet we are called to pray.

After leaving Hunter College, things became a lot more challenging and the world throws itself at you with force. It is easy to fall victim to what the world has for us, yet holding fast to what God has laid out for us in his word is an arduous task, yet a necessary and pivotal acknowledgement. One of the biggest things that I have noticed since I have left school is how much of an influence the people that I surround myself with play in my life. Thursday afternoon at Baruch College, the campus was buzzing. Undergraduate Student Government elections were coming to a close, people were lining outside to see our concert, and members of InterVarsity Christian fellowship (IVCF) were running all around trying to finish up everything so that we would be able to open doors on time. My job...

Of course politics came up, and one angry guy at the table vehemently said, "I don't know of a single Christian who voted for Obama! My first thought was, "Dude, you need to get out more." My second thought was, "Yes you do, but they would never tell you because you don't know how to listen."
Dude, make a friend who is different than you! It might not change the way you think, but at least you can learn where folks on the others side are coming from.
Friendship Changes Everything
If there is one thing I have learned, it's that...

Usually I share on how to avoid conflict or overcome conflict, but David Arcos from Mosaic gave me a new framework to consider as he invited me to speak at Terra Nova, a retreat for creatives in Los Angeles. This is what I realized:
Conflict can be a gift.
Here are ten gifts that can come from conflict:
1. Conflict can help move us closer to God and towards depending on Him
It is human nature that when we face conflict and challenges we are more likely to pursue Him than when things are going well.
2. Conflict reveals our differences and if we look for it can help us find what we have in common
Conflicts can help us discover others’ uniqueness, values, and passions. Work to figure out what you have...
